Description
Project Overview

I led the design and production of The Wahlen, a quarterly magazine for the VA Salt Lake City Health Care System (VASLCHCS), targeting staff, Veterans, their families, and volunteers. The magazine aims to inform, educate, entertain, and inspire its readership by showcasing stories, updates, and resources relevant to the Veteran community. brandysims.myportfolio.com

Challenges
  • Diverse Audience: Catering to a wide demographic, including Veterans of varying ages, medical staff, and volunteers, required content and design that resonated universally.
  • Resource Constraints: Balancing high-quality production with budgetary and time limitations necessitated efficient project management and creative solutions.
Solution
  • Engaging Visual Design: Developed a modern, clean layout with compelling imagery and intuitive navigation to enhance readability and engagement.
  • Collaborative Content Development: Worked closely with the VASLCHCS Office of Communications to curate relevant articles, interviews, and features that reflect the interests and needs of the readership.
  • Efficient Production Workflow: Implemented streamlined processes for content creation, editing, and design to adhere to tight publication schedules without compromising quality.
Results
  • Positive Reception: The magazine received favorable feedback from readers for its informative content and appealing design, strengthening the connection between VASLCHCS and its community.
  • Enhanced Communication: Served as an effective platform for disseminating important updates, health information, and success stories, fostering a sense of community and shared purpose.
  • Increased Engagement: The engaging content and design elements contributed to higher readership and participation in featured programs and events.

This project exemplifies the impact of thoughtful design and strategic content curation in producing a publication that not only informs but also builds community among Veterans, their families, and healthcare providers.
